I’ve got a small project that I need to complete for an upcoming presentation on JAMstack. Since I was starting the project from scratch I thought it might be interesting to record the process so I could see how I spent my time.
Here is the video:
I started out by spending a lot of time trying to define my goals for the project, as well as my session goals. At the end of the ~2 hours I made it to my planned milestone.
Woo Hoo!
Now don’t get me wrong, the project looks awful but because I made my session goals I feel happy about the progress. But are my good feelings misplaced? Am I deluding myself?
Eh, maybe.
Maybe I am falsely tripping my dopamine reward system by checking my own made-up boxes, but I feel good about where the project is now and how much work is left to be done. Those NOT common sentiments in software engineering, so I plan on enjoying them while they last.
So what do you think, is this anything like how you engage with your side projects?
PS: You can check out what the site looks like now, or clone the project out on github,
