    I bought this mouse (the glossy black with red lettering and red aluminum frame) in Oct, 2013 when it was around $45. Don't get me wrong, I did my homework and knew they had faulty lasers, but went ahead anyway. The mouse was flawless for 3.5 yrs and then it went ape. Holding the mouse steady the cursor would fly ALL over my desktop, lol. Sometimes randomly clicking on things but mostly just making it unusable. In late 2016 I decided to buy another, but after seeing they now wanted $199 for the very same mouse I opted to go with the flat black version which served me well, well, it still works fine to this day. Didn't particularly care for the flat black about 5 yrs ago so I decided to perform surgery. I took the 'guts' from the newer version and transplanted them into my old favorite glossy black body and as of right now 5.13.22, I'm having neither any problems nor regrets buying the second one. I know full well that the laser on this one will also fart out, I'll probably have to buy one of the newer mice, and knowing myself, will try to perform surgery yet again, but seeing as how the frames are a bit diffrent, it may be a bit... Difficult, but I'll get it done. Mad Catz hooked me, I even got their S.T.R.I.K.E 4 RGB keyboard (was going to drop the $300+ on their old S.T.R.I.K.E 7 keyboard because of it being modular, but THAT one I can say I'm glad I didn't spend the money on. Regardless of the version, I'll always stick with Mad Catz, especially since they fixed their mice 'issues.' Awesome products. Wouldn't hesistate to buy more. Just always, ALWAYS do your homework, research EVERYTHING you intend on buying, regardless of industry.

      Disclaimer - I've only had this mouse for a couple of days - but unless it dies young, it's a winner.

      I can re-map ALL the buttons with other keys or macros. That's important to me, because I use the back key for gaming chat - which causes a headache every time I have both a game and Firefox up (I haven't been able to re-map that key input on Firefox). The Logitech gaming mice I've tried can't properly re-map those buttons, and I don't recall that the Razer Deathadder can either - that one fell off my desktop 1 time and broke (not to mention that you have to log into your account on the internet every time you boot the computer in order to use any of the mouse's special features - I'll never buy that again).

      The extra buttons and scroll wheel are awesome at this price. I do a lot of Photoshop, and I can set the second scroll wheel to adjust the cursor size. That is an amazing plus for me. The on-the-fly DPI adjustments are awesome for gaming. Lastly, it can switch between 3 different sets of key maps with an on-mouse button press. Again, you just don't see that functionality at this price point.

      The software has worked well - though it is a bit clunky and in SERIOUS need of a decent manual - it took quite a long time, a web search, and a trip through an online FAQ, to figure out how to automatically set a profile on startup.

      Lastly, the mouse feels great. It just feels well built. The clicks are right. The scroll wheel feels solid. There's no slop or free play. This is a heavy mouse - even with the extra weights removed, it's got more heft than some of the competition. You just feel that you're working with a quality product.

      Again - I haven't had it long, but of the dozen or so mice I've tried (including a couple in the $60-$100 range), this is a clear winner on features and feel.

      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      September: I've had this mouse for 4 months now - I still love it. Best mouse I've ever had. Period.
      It's taken several falls from my desktop without breaking, and the extra wheel is awesome in Photoshop (I use it for brush size).
      Febuary '14: Still love it. I wouldn't trade it for any other mouse.
      Feb: '15: finally died (my fault) - recent Mad Catz reviews indicate that the company has gone into the toilet so I bought a Logitech G502. It's now April '16 and that's my new fave.
      This is a good mouse. This is the third one from the R.A.T's family that I use, and they are very good, reliable and you feel you are paying for quality. This unit in specific is a mid range item, but it is a great option.
      In the other hand, I do not recommend people to buy it, as the company who makes the products (Mad Catz) is not providing support for any of their items.
      Again, this is a great device, no doubts about that, but people should be informed about this problem too.
      Nice mouse, but not sure I'd recommend it. I'm not a gamer, but was looking for something that was better built than most of the mice that I've used over the years. Summary: hardware quality is good, software is dodgy. I installed the drivers on my Mac, but the interface is kind of junk - written for gamers apparently. Frankly, a UI for hardware control should be easy to understand and look less like a control console for a space game. Anyway, my main problem is not the UI - it's the fact that it flakes out. After installing the driver (which requires a reboot on a Mac - clearly, these are Windows people who don't quite "get it" - I haven't had to reboot my machine in 6 months for any install other than this one) the horizontal scroll went crazy. It was as if there was a constant "right scroll" happening, so any window that had a horizontal scroll bar was constantly pushed to the edge of the view pane. Even if I unplugged the mouse. I uninstalled the software, and it's fine now but the horizontal scroll wheel doesn't work, which is pretty lame.
      UPDATE: No, I'd absolutely not recommend this mouse. About two days after first use, and a day after this review, the left mouse button started "double clicking" on everything automatically. This is incredibly frustrating, and makes the mouse useless. I re-installed the software again to see if it was that, no change (though the horizontal scroll wheel started to work again.) Doing some Google searches turned up many MANY more people with the same double-click problem, and there is no fix (Windows users have used a program that squelches the double click in software, but that is an ugly hack IMHO) I reported a ticket to the company, and we'll see what happens.
      UPDATE #2: No, customer service was a waste of time. "Re-install the drivers." It was clearly a cut-and-paste answer to distract from the obvious issues that are reported here - this is a defective hardware device, compounded by a defective set of drivers. It looks nice, but is utterly useless. The scroll problem plus the double click problem make it a throwaway. DO NOT BUY.
      Ho acquistato questo mouse circa 1 anno e mezzo fa, e dopo tutto questo testing posso dire che è veramente un OTTIMO prodotto anche se purtroppo ho riscontrato qualche difetto:
      PRO
      -Regolazione DPI programmabile e gestibile istantaneamente durante il gioco (comodissimo per gli FPS)
      -Peso e scorrevolezza eccellenti (Assolutamente obbligatorio un buon tappetino da gaming, il peso è regolabile)
      -Supporto per il pollice, pochi mouse lo hanno ed è veramente comodissimo! mai più senza!!!
      -Si adatta perfettamente alla forma della mano ed i tasti x il pollice sono molto comodi
      -Esteticamente molto bello, quasi futuristico, la scocca in alluminio lo rende molto stabile e "robusto"
      CONTRO
      -Dopo circa un anno di uso ho notato che i tacchetti di scorrimento iniziano a consumarsi (nonostante usato sempre con un buon tappetino da gaming)
      -Inoltre 5 giorni fa improvvisamente ha smesso di funzionare (non si muoveva più il cursore) ma per fortuna c'ha pensato Amazon!!!!
      dopo varie verifiche di drivers, software, ecc... essendo ancora in garanzia ho chiamato l'assistenza clienti e dopo non più' di 5 minuti il mio nuovo RAT5 era già in viaggio verso casa mia (quasi non ci credevo)
      Ci tengo a precisare che nonostante avessi potuto scegliere il rimborso totale ho optato per la sostituzione, in quanto come già detto, nonostante i contro, lo reputo veramente un ottimo mouse, e a questo prezzo non credo che avrei potuto trovare di meglio.
      This is the second one I bought because I just love it that much. My first one lasted roughly 3 years of heavy use before the left click spring broke. As far as I'm concerned that's pretty good.
      As far as the mouse itself goes, it's built very sturdy. Even my old one had no squishy, jiggly, peeling, or worn parts. It has a metal frame to which all the components are bolted to using hex head bolts.
      The buttons are excellent with a nice feel and click, including the side buttons which are both easily accessible with the thumb without any weird contortions or straining which is good since I use those almost as much as the main buttons. The scroll wheel also feels great with solid clicks and depressing it is just as good as the rest. I never use the side scroll wheel but it also has a good feel and placement.
      The cord is very long and high quality. It comes with a little strap to tie up any excess in case it's too long.
      The accuracy and sensitivity is much more than I need and is changable on the fly. I use the third highest setting and then slow it down a bit in Windows. This works great for gaming because it's quick and has enough 'travel' to not have to constantly lift the mouse and row it in order to look around or aim.
      The weight is surprisingly light for how solid it is, but it comes with extra weights that you can slide into a rail inside the mouse to fine tune it. You can also extend the palm pad to dial it in for your hand size. I have giant monkey hands with long fingers so it's really great for me to not feel cramped.
      At first it worked fine for a while, but after using it for 6 moths or so problems started to show up. Now the cursor refuses to move every now and then, freezes up or sometimes it just jumps from one place to another... I'm facing a ton of problems now.
      Not recommended. Buy some other mouse, you will be wasting money if you buy this one.
      Rien à dire, j'avais déjà ce modèle auparavant. Je l'ai changé car mon ancienne ne fonctionnait plus. A force de la ranger et la sortir tous les jours de ma saccoche de pc portable, le câble avait fini par se couper, comme tous câbles de n'importe quel périphérique à force d'être enroulé. Mais aucun risque sur un pc fixe. Il s'agit d'une souris de très bonne qualité, en câble tressé. Le confort est également au rdv. Le fait de pouvoir régler la taille et le poids est un gros +. Aussi le logiciel fournis pour le réglage des modes (3 au total) ainsi que les macros et le dpi est très intuitif. Je recommande.
